*In order to enroll in insurance reimbursement programs, membership must be paid by monthly bank draft.
**Enrollment Fee will be waived for students with a current school ID, current/former military service persons with government ID and for individuals enrolling in the insurance reimbursement program). 
***A Single Adult Family/Household Membership includes any one adults aged 26 or older and any dependents 19 and under or full-time college student age 25 and younger that live in the same household. All individuals must live at the same address (may require proof of residence with membership application). 
****A Family/Household Membership includes up to two adults aged 26 or older and any dependents 19 and under or full-time college student age 25 and younger that live in the same household. All individuals must live at the same address (may require proof of residence with membership application).

Sign Up Online

If you pay upfront for an annual membership or a short-term membership(3 month/6 month) you will have an expiration date. Monthly Memberships that pay via automatic payments do not have an expiration date and will renew each month. There is no refund for cancellation on annual full-pay/short-term memberships. Memberships are paid monthly or annually and may be paid on either a credit/debit card or monthly bank draft. If signing up using a bank draft, members may choose to draft on either the 1st or the 15th of each month. If signing up online, on your first visit to the YMCA, our Member Service Staff will be happy to assist you in getting your new membership card, taking a picture for your account, and giving you a tour! No appointment is necessary.

Guest Pass Rates 
Nonmembers are welcome to purchase a day guest pass up to 3 times per month. A week guest pass is valid for 7 calendar days from the date of issue.

Enrollment Fee
There is an enrollment fee for all new memberships and memberships that have lapsed for 30 or more days. This is a one-time fee that is used to help us maintain and improve our facilities. Youth and teen memberships are exempt from the enrollment fee as are memberships that qualify for the insurance reimbursements. You must have proof of insurance eligibility at the time of membership enrollment to receive the waived enrollment fee. College students with proof of current Student ID/class schedule are also exempt. Individuals with military/veteran status are also eligible to have the enrollment fee waived.

Membership Cancellation Policy
The YMCA does not have long-term contracts! You may cancel your membership at any time by coming to the Fergus Falls YMCA location and filling out a cancellation form. Choosing to cancel a membership must be done in writing by the 20th of the month (example: cancel 9/20 and the membership ends 9/30). The membership will draft on the 15th of that month and will discontinue on the last day of that month. Canceling AFTER the 20th of the month will result in one more draft the following month and the membership ending at the end of the following month. Cancellation may be made by coming into the YMCA and signing a cancellation form, by sending a letter to the YMCA, or by emailing emily@fergusfallsymca.org.

Health Club Credit Programs
Many YMCA members get paid to work out! The YMCA partners with many insurance providers to offer monthly reimbursements to members with participating health plans. To find out if your plan qualifies, simply call the number on the back of your insurance card.

Nationwide Membership
YMCA members receive 12 passes a year to our partner facility – Family Wellness (near Scheels Arena). Plus, as a YMCA member, you have access to other YMCA’s around the world through the YMCA’s Nationwide Membership program! 

We are happy to welcome YMCA members who are using the Y's Nationwide Membership to visit our facilities. We encourage our members to call the YMCA they are traveling to in advance to make sure that facility is participates in the Nationwide program and is allowing reciprocity.

Liability Waiver: By participating in the YMCA Nationwide Membership Program, I agree to release the National Council of Young Men’s Christian Associations of the United States of America, and its independent and autonomous member associations in the United States and Puerto Rico, from claims of negligence for bodily injury or death in connection with the use of YMCA facilities, and  from any liability for other claims, including loss of property, to the fullest extent of the law.

Military Discounts
Enrollment Fee
The YMCA of the Northern Sky is proud to support our armed services by waiving the enrollment fee for all current and past military members. That’s up to $50 in savings! Members taking advantage of this benefit must provide their military ID and photo ID at sign-up.

Military Outreach Initiative
In partnership with the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), the YMCA of the Northern Sky is proud to offer memberships to eligible military family and personnel through the Department of Defense’s Military Outreach Initiative. Through this initiative, military members and family receive access to vital resources that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. 
To be eligible, the service member must be on Title 10 orders with at least six (6) months remaining, and meet the requirements of one of the following categories:

Category 1: Active Duty Independent Duty Personnel (IDP)

• I am assigned to a Service-designated Independent Duty Station that is not at or near a free or Service-provided fitness facility; AND
• I require a single-person membership or my family resides with me and I require a family membership

Category 2: Unaccompanied Spouse/Family of Active Duty

• Sponsor is deployed or on “unaccompanied tour” orders that require the member to reside at an assigned duty location and restricts the spouse/family from accompanying the member; AND
• Sponsor’s family resides at a Service-designated independent duty station or in an area that is not at or near a free or Service-provided fitness facility.

Category 3: Unaccompanied Spouse/Family of Deployed Guard and Reserves

• Sponsor is on deployment orders that require the member to reside at an assigned duty location that restricts the spouse/family from accompanying the member; AND
• Sponsor’s family resides at a Service-designated independent duty station or in an area that is not at or near a free or Service-provided fitness facility

Category 4: Community Based Warrior Transition Unit/Warrior Care Unit

• My duty location is my home address
• My home address is not located at or near a free or Service-provided fitness facility
• I require a single-person membership or my family resides with me and I require a family membership. Only one membership type (single or family) authorized.

* Personnel on IDP assignment as support staff to a warrior transition/care unit must use Category 1 (IDP).

The application process is as follows: 

1) Complete and sign the Membership Application. Please use the same form for new and renewal requests. There is an additional form for Independent Duty Station – Command Form
2) Submit new and renewal applications to your Military Command Approving Official (MCAO). The MCAO will sign off and submit to ASYMCA for approval.
3) If pre-approved, ASYMCA will email a payment invoice to the local YMCA to complete application.
4) The ASYMCA will review the final application and send a final approval email. The service member will then connect with the local YMCA to start their membership.

Fergus Falls YMCA Membership Frequently Asked Questions

If I pay monthly, do I have to make automatic payments?

We do require that monthly memberships take part in our automatic bank draft plan. You can use a checking or savings account or a credit card. At the time of purchase, you will be required to pay a prorated amount that covers you until the end of the month. Subsequent payments are automatically deducted from your bank account/billing account beginning the 15th of the following month and pay for a calendar month (Example: Sept 15th payment would cover Sept 1-30). The bank draft automatically renews each month until you cancel in writing per the cancellation policy.

What happens if my monthly payment is returned by the bank?

If for any reason a membership bank draft is not honored by your bank, you will still be responsible for that payment, plus the posted service fee (currently $30.00). This is in addition to any service fee your bank may apply. It is the member's responsibility to check their bank statement regularly to make sure the YMCA membership rate being withdrawn is correct. The Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA will accept a maximum of three (3) months of responsibility if the YMCA is in error.

Do I have to pre-pay for classes or programs?

Most classes are included with your Y membership and, therefore, do not have a cost. However, programs such as the Fergus Falls YMCA's after-school program, swimming lessons, and sports leagues do require a pre-payment.

Are there any age restrictions at the Fergus Falls YMCA?

We want our Fergus Falls Y to be a fun and safe place for members and guests. We do have policies in place to maintain that atmosphere. Please see our Facility Age Policy

What can I do if I can't afford a Y membership?

The Y's policy is to never turn someone away for the inability to pay. That’s why the Fergus Falls YMCA offers Financial Assistance. The Financial Assistance program is an income-based rate scale that is designed so that all people will have access to the programs and services of the YMCA, regardless of income. The Financial Assistance program is made possible by generous and philanthropic individuals, businesses, and community members who contribute to the Y's Annual Giving Campaign each year to assist individuals or families with their membership. 

The Financial Assistance program has been developed for individuals or families in what would be considered a crisis situation. A “crisis situation” would include: a disability, medical referral, rehabilitation, a family situation, extremely low income or any other special circumstance where assistance is needed.

All assistance is based on a sliding scale that takes into consideration your gross household income, number of dependents, and living expenses. Everyone is asked to pay a portion of the membership fees. Programs such as Fergus Falls YMCA child care, swimming lessons, youth sports, and such are eligible for up to 50% off the fee. Additional fees for programs or service are the individual or families’ responsibility.

How do I apply for Fergus Falls YMCA Financial Assistance?

The first step to acquiring assistance is to fill out the Financial Assistance Application, which you can download from this website, or pick up at our Member Services Desk.

We require that all applicants submit verification of their income with the completed application. Required documentation may include:


  • A photocopy of your most recent Federal Income Tax Return
  • Photocopies of your 3 most recent pay stubs
  • Documentation for all of the categories for ANY and ALL assistance that you or your family members living in the household receive:
  • Unemployment
  • General Assistance
  • Food Stamps
  • WIC
  • Medicaid/Medicare
  • Alimony
  • Veteran’s Benefit, etc. 


Return the completed application and supporting documentation to the Fergus Falls YMCA for review. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and can take up to 3 weeks for approval. You will receive a notification of your status via USPS mail.

Do I have to be a YMCA member to use the Fergus Falls YMCA facility?

The Fergus Falls YMCA requires that people who use the pool, gym, and fitness areas are members, guests or have paid the appropriate guest day pass fee. All guests must complete a Participant & Guest Application. Guests who are under the age of 18 must have this form completed by a parent before they will be allowed to use the facility. Other parts of the facility such as the lobby and Interactive Learning Center (ILC) are open to the public.

Potential Members or guests are welcome to use the facility by purchasing a day pass. At this time, we do not offer specific program day passes. Paid day passes are limited to 3 passes per month.
